Ingredients

  • For the Stir Fry:
  • 8 oz flank steak or sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 oz lo mein or spaghetti noodles cooked and drained
  • For the Sauce:
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • ¼ cup water

Method

  1. In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it sit while you prep the other ingredients—this helps tenderize the beef and give it a velvety texture when cooked.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes (if using), and water. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until it begins to soften. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet. Add the cooked noodles and pour in the sauce. Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats everything evenly.
  6. Remove from heat and serve hot. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Warm in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water or soy sauce to loosen the noodles.
  • Freezing: Not recommended as noodles may become mushy after thawing.
