Ingredients

  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce optional, for umami
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups cooked green beans fresh, canned, or frozen
  • 1 ½ cups crispy fried onions divided
  • Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese for a cheesy version

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x9 or 8x8-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Add the cooked green beans and ⅔ cup of the crispy fried onions to the sauce mixture. Stir until everything is well coated.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes, until hot and bubbling.
  5. Carefully remove the dish from the oven and top with the remaining crispy fried onions (and cheese if using). Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is golden.
  6. Let cool slightly and serve hot alongside your favorite main dishes.

Notes

  • Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Warm in the oven or microwave until heated through.
Freezing: Best served fresh, but you can freeze before baking. Add onions after thawing and bake as directed.
