In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add the warm water and olive oil, and stir to combine. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center and stretch it out to form a bagel shape.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the bagels in, one at a time. Boil for about 1 minute per side, then place them on a baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. 🧀
