Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage mild or spicy
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • Warm biscuits for serving

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Do not drain the grease.
  2. Add butter to the skillet and stir until melted. Sprinkle in the flour, stirring continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the flour is fully incorporated and slightly golden.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Continue stirring and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  4. Once the gravy reaches the desired consistency, remove it from heat. Serve hot over freshly baked biscuits, and enjoy!
