Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend
  • 4 burger buns toasted
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Optional toppings: lettuce tomato, pickles, onions, burger sauce

Method

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and roll them into loose balls. Do not compact them too much—this keeps them juicy.
  2. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat and add vegetable oil. The surface should be very hot before adding the beef.
  3. Place a beef ball on the hot surface and smash it down using a spatula or burger press until it’s very thin. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes until crispy, then flip, place a cheese slice on top, and cook for another minute.
  4. Butter and toast the buns, then assemble the burger with your favorite toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy!
